"Ralph Dupas, 3rd ranked welterweight, took a win by default Monday night in his home town when Argentine opponent Antonio Marcilla was DQ'd in the 9th round of a scheduled 10-rounder. Referee Francis Kercheval, who had warned Marcilla several times earlier in the match, DQ'd him after he pushed Dupas into the ropes and butted him with his head. Marcilla, 144, was in trouble at the time. Dupas landed two jolting rights to his chin and Marcilla appeared groggy as he shoved Dupas toward the ropes. The match had been lopsided in favor of Dupas, 144, who showed why he was a 3-1 favorite in all but the opening round when Marcilla landed several left hooks to Dupas' chin and pumped both hands to his mid-section. Dupas came back in the 2nd, displaying sharp boxing form with jabs and hooks. He opened a cut on his opponent's eye and brought blood from his nose. From there to the DQ, it was all Dupas' fight." -United Press International
- Going into this match, Dupas was already signed to fight Joey Giardello in his next bout.
