Ray Miller 132 lbs beat Billy Petrolle 133 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10
- Date: 1929-05-01
- Location: Olympia Stadium, Detroit, Michigan, USA
- Referee: Elmer 'Slim' McClelland
"The decision of referee Elmer "Slim" McClelland in declaring Ray Miller the winner over Billy Petrolle after their 10 bloody rounds last night was most unpopular. The verdict was booed from the time it was made until the concluding bout got underway. The majority of the 14,000 who witnessed the battle figured that Petrolle, by a brilliant and inspiring stand, completely outfought Miller in the last three rounds and was entitled to the verdict. Unbiased observers at ringside agreed that Petrolle, by keeping on the offensive from the start, had won six of the 10 rounds, with three going to Miller and honors being even in the opening session. The spectators were stunned when referee McClelland raised Miller's right hand." -Associated Press
- It had been announced that Miller's next bout was to be staged in Navin Field under Olympia Arena promotions against Billy Wallace, with the winner to be assured of a lightweight title fight against Sammy Mandell. However, Miller was rematched with Petrolle on that date at the Olympia Arena.
