"Frankie Warren, attacking his opponent's injured ribs, knocked down Ronnie Shields in the 12th round Sunday and won the USBA junior welterweight championship on a unanimous decision. Warren apparently injured Shields's ribs in the 4th round. The defending champion was taken to a hospital and released after tests showed bruised ribs. Warren pounded Shields's midsection late in the bout before his looping overhand right in the 12th caught Shields on the left temple, sending him to the mat for a count of four." -United Press International
