"Tireless Frankie Narvaez, throwing leather from bell to bell, pounded out a majority decision over Mexico's Chango Carmona before some 3,717 fans at Convention Center Arena Friday night. Carmona put on a belated rally in the final two rounds that was flashy enough to earn a draw on the referee's card and arouse the partisan fans. It appeared that Chango's hopes hinged on a knockout and he started the final two rounds strong, but he couldn't hold off the onrushing Puerto Rican." -San Antonio Light
- Olympic Boxing Club matchmaker Mickey Davies wired both camps prior to this bout that he would begin negotiations for a title fight for the winner with lightweight champion Mando Ramos.

Post fight comment
"He hurt me with a left hook in the 4th round, but that was the only good blow he landed. He has a good left jab, but it never really bothered me." -Frankie Narvaez
