Miceli had the edge in the first three rounds cutting Smith over the right eye, as Smith seemed to have trouble finding his shorter opponent. In the 4th round Smith took control, as Miceli appeared to tire suddenly. Miceli appeared unable to land much of anything, except some bodyshots, as Smith controlled the action through the end of the 7th round. The referee stopped the bout at the end of the 7th round, as Miceli was barely able to finish the round on his feet.
