"Cuba's Orlando Zulueta finished strong last night to gain a split decision over Wallace Smith of Cincinnati, in a telecast 10 rounder at Eastern Parkway Arena. Smith, fresh from a draw with undefeated Johnny Saxton, got off to a good lead in the first half of the fight by crowding the Cuban and scoring effectively with combinations at short range. But from the 5th round on, Zulueta appeared to have solved his opponent's style and outscored him consistently. The tall Cuban kept off his rival with stabbing left jabs and snappy left hooks. There were no knockdowns but Smith was cut under the right eye in the 3rd round." -Associated Press
