Fred Apostoli 161 lbs beat Glen Lee 157 lbs by UD in round 15 of 15

"Fred Apostoli, 160 3/4, returned to the middleweight titular picture with a unanimous 15-round decision over Glenn Lee, 156 3/4, of Edison, Neb. Whether the verdict over Lee got Apostoli any nearer the title or not, it certainly removed Lee from his path. The fans in MSG last night saw the Californian methodically outpoint Lee while absorbing a minimum of punishment himself. There was little of the savagery that featured in their first melee on February 4th. Apostoli, this time, picked his spots, threw his punches and stepped back to see how much damage they did. These tactics threw Lee completely out of stride for he expected his opponent to mix it as in their first brawl. It was the first time either had gone 15 rounds but Lee tired badly after the 8th. Twice Apostoli - in the 4th and 13th - appeared to have his man on the verge of a knockout, but in neither instance did he rush in to finish Lee." -United Press

  • The UP article surmised that Young Corbett III would be receiving the next shot at middleweight champ Freddie Steele and that Apostoli would be matched with England's Jock McAvoy in MSG in May. However, neither match materialized.
