"Lester Felton, an in-and-out fighter from Detroit turned on the steam Monday night to take a majority 10-round decision from Bobby Dykes, 2nd-ranked contender for the welterweight title. Felton, 150 1/2, carried the fight all the way to his favored opponent who came in at 155 1/4. The San Antonio boxer tried desperately in the last few rounds to score a knockout blow with a lethal right hand swing but missed much more often than he connected. The dodging Felton led him from rope to rope. Some 4,193 fans crowded the Louisville Armory to see the surprising upset. Felton bloodied Dyke's nose in the 2nd round and repeated blows kept the Texan's face covered with blood for the next seven rounds. Felton came out of the scrap with a cut over his right eye. There were no knockdowns." -United Press
- Unofficial UP scorecard - 6-3-1 Felton
- Dykes was already signed prior to this match to fight Gil Turner in Philadelphia on November 17th and it was reported that this result would not affect the already scheduled match. However, the bout did not take place until January 20th in '53.
