In a crossroads fight between future Junior Middleweight champion Darrin Van Horn and contender Santana, 'Schoolboy' Van Horn outpointed Luis Santana over ten rounds in a nationally televised bout. Although Van Horn landed jabs and in heated exchanges far more frequently, Santana was never in trouble and fought well in defeat, not losing by very much. Simply put, Van Horn landed more jabs and power shots than Santana did and deserved to win, but Santana comported himself very well and did well at times with jab combinations and counterpunching right jabs over Van Horn's left. A very competitive fight that was very entertaining and certainly closer than the scoring indicated.
