"Local boxing fans were treated to one of the best fights seen here in years at the Blue Horizon when Gypsy Joe Harris, 147 1/2, and Johnny Knight, 143, slugged it out in a 10-round bout with Harris winning a unanimous decision. Harris opened a cut over Knight's left eye in the 2nd round and kept slugging his way to his 13th straight victory. This was Harris' first appearance in a main event and the first time he has gone 10 rounds. Neither battler is a deadly puncher, otherwise it could not have lasted 30 minutes. Marvelous condition kept them going at full pace. Except for the 1st round, Gypsy Joe had too much respect for his opponent to use his tricky in-and-out clowning methods he featured in his more recent fights." -Ring Magazine, Auguust 1966 issue
- Gypsy Joe initially weighed in at 150 1/2 at the morning weigh-in. A pound and a half over the contracted 149. Ordered to bring his weight down, Harris worked out and actually lost three pounds for his next attempt at weight.
