"Orlando Zulueta of Cuba outboxed a ring-rusty Paddy DeMarco last night to gain a 10-round majority decision verdict over the Brooklyn lightweight contender at Eastern Parkway Arena. Zulueta, scoring repeatedly with a left hook to the body, recorded the upset despite a 3-pound disadvantage in the weights. Zulueta, at 133, to DeMarco's 136, got to his foe with rapid-fire combinations of lefts and rights as DeMarco appeared too slow to counter the storm of blows. DeMarco had not fought since last May and his lack of exercise showed him up." -Associated Press
- Referee Barney Felix' scorecard was 5-5 in rounds, but utilizing New York's supplemental system on an even score allowed him to add points to each fighter's total. However, it still came out even at 7-7 on points.
- DeMarco's best round was the 4th, but a low blow in that round cost him the round. In NY at this time, a penalization was simply taking the round from the offending fighter and giving it to his opponent.
