"Frankie Ryff, 4th ranked lightweight, knocked down Paddy DeMarco, former lightweight champion, for an eight-count in the 6th round tonight and went on to win a unanimously close decision. Ryff bled from the eyes from the 4th round on before the 1,727 paid fans at the Coliseum and a national television audience. Ryff's right-hand sock came suddenly in the 6th to put DeMarco flat on his back. As the former champ was going down, Ryff's right elbow caught him in the face and drew blood from his nose. DeMarco, groggy but conscious enough to look to his corner for instructions, took several one-two combinations from Ryff before the bell ended the possibility of a knockout.
