"Similarly outclassed, Arthur Dixon, Preston, retired at the conclusion of round three in a fight over six rounds with Roy Sharples, Burnley. Dixon quickly tired in the first round when he got knocked about in several spirited rallies and Sharples had no difficulty in gaining the mastery in the following round when he put him down for a count of seven. Twice Sharples was knocked down and the referee had counted up to five when the intervention of the gong saved him. Completely exhausted, he got up to stagger to his corner at the end of the third round when he announced his retirement. Sharples was the winner." Boxing News, July 30th, 1947
