Duddy took a lot of unnecessary punishment from Smichet in the first half of the fight.

Before the fight, Duddy was in line to face reigning WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik, but the numerous cuts and gashes he suffered during this fight knocked him out of contention for that fight.
