"Billy Backus took another stride toward welterweight title recognition with a unanimous decision over Danny McAloon of New York City, at the War Memorial Auditorium, as he was in command all the way during their 12 round battle. The crowd showed plenty of admiration for McAloon's courage as he was knocked down twice; was bleeding from cuts around his eyes and nose in the later rounds; and yet came banging back to stab and slug with the former world champion. Backus, who should have lost the 2nd round for two low blows, was also warned for similar shots a couple of times in the later rounds, but it did not affect the referee's card. Backus, though he is prone to cuts, was unmarked after the fight, whereas McAloon stayed on his feet through sheer courage." -The Syracuse Post-Standard

Post-fight comment
- "McAloon's a tough man. If Jose Napoles took the shots that Backus handed out tonight, Billy would have stopped him." -Tony Graziano, Backus' manager
