Jack Ward, of Newark, Del., and William Smith, of Philadelphia, feather-weights, started in for ten rounds, but Ward put Smith out after 2 minutes and 23 seconds fighting in the seventh round. Smith seemed to have the better of the third and fourth rounds. He was Ward's superior at infighting. Up to the sixth round it was an even thing, but Ward got in a right-hand settler upon Smith's jaw.
