Bout Summary
Quillin came out behind the left jab in a tactical first round, landing a hard right hand just past the halfway point and pushing Miranda to the ropes with a flurry moments later. Quillin was more aggressive in the second round, landing a sharp lead left hook only thirty seconds in. It was all Quillin again in the third round, the separation of class between the two combatants glaring. A right hand at the bell snapped Miranda’s head straight back and the fourth round was more of the same. Rescuing the bout from the brink of monotony, Miranda came to life with a hard overhand right early in the fifth round and continued to move his hands throughout with shots to the body and a nice left hook upstairs towards the bell. In the sixth round, Quillin's left hook was finding its way home to the head of Miranda. The seventh round began much as the rest of the fight had, deliberately paced and in favor of Quillin. Suddently, a leveraged right uppercut inside caught Quillin, followed by a left-right upstairs causing a visible shake in Quillin’s knees as he stepped backwards to the ropes. Miranda pursued with another hard right hand, hurting Quillin for the first time in his career. Quillin leaned in, attempting to hold his man, smother his offense, and survive. Miranda shook him off with his shoulders, cranking hard hooks to the body and looking for the final right hand that could end his night. Instead, it was Quillin who would be on the offense in the waning moments of the frame. He weathered the storm, declaring it with a left hook off the ropes that momentarily stunned Miranda, bringing a roar from the crowd. Both fired a few more bombs before the bell rang. Quillin was in control in the eighth and ninth rounds as the fight returned to its previous form. In round ten, Quillin was on the offense throughout, landing flush hooks when he could and raising his hands at the bell to signal his eventual victory.
