Benny Lynch 119 lbs beat Jackie Jurich 110 lbs by KO in round 12 of 15

  • Date: 1938-06-29
  • Location: St Mirren Football Ground, Paisley, Scotland, United Kingdom
  • Referee: Moss Deyong

"Benny Lynch of Scotland scored a TKO over Jackie Jurich, California flyweight, in the 12th round last night, a few hours after the BBB of C had stripped him of his world's flyweight title for being overweight. The referee stepped in and stopped the scheduled 15 round bout after the American had absorbed a terrific beating. Jurich was knocked down several times in the early rounds but saved himself through clever footwork." -Associated Press

  • The morning of the fight Benny Lynch weighed in at 118 1/2 - 6 1/2 pounds over the flyweight limit - while Jurich weighed in at 110 1/2.
  • The BBB of C gave Lynch one hour to shed the 6 1/2 pounds, which was impossible, so Lynch requested that the fight go on at catchweights while the Board declared the flyweight title vacant.
  • The BBB of C awarded Jurich Lynch's $1,000 forfeit money.
  • A week after this bout the BBB of C asked Lynch to appear before them on July 19th to explain his failure to make weight.
  • On July 22nd the BBB of C levied an additional fine of $1,000 on Lynch for failure to make weight.
