Clarence King 142 lbs drew with Ernie Petrone 142 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10

  • Date: 1945-12-28
  • Location: Legion Arena, West Palm Beach, Florida, USA
  • Referee: Bill Regan

Bouncing out of his corner like a rubber ball in the first round, Petrone, bounced looping rights and short lefts to King's head before Clarence knew what had happened. The same thing happened in the second round with the results that Petrone was two up before the fans had settled into their chairs.

King seemed to awaken in the third and fourth when he earned a draw in each round and went on to win the fifth round. The sixth found Ernie scoring again with his right to the head which gave him three rounds to King's one.

King's seconds probably laid down the law to the counterpunching King and he began to toss leather in such a beautiful fashion that he was able to take the next three rounds and come to the center of the ring for the tenth round with an edge of one round. He looked like a certain winner at the tenth, but Petrone swarmed all over him to take the round and get a draw. It was a tough hard fight.
