  • Date: 1967-08-14
  • Location: Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico
  • "Pornchai Popraingam, 118 1/4, the bantamweight champ of Thailand, faced the bantamweight champ of Mexico, Chucho Castillo, also 118 1/4. After a notorious slow start, things livened up in the 2nd, with both fighters trading well. In the latter stages of round two, the Thai caught Castillo going away and dropped the champ from Mexico for a mandatory eight that surprised everyone including Castillo. Castillo, realizing his opponent came to fight, started to bear down, throwing heavier punches and took a few himself. Midway in round five, Castillo unloaded a vicious right hand that caught the Thai flush in the face and dropped him like a rock. As the count reached seven, he tried to get up but fell over to one side and remained there for two minutes. The time was 1:59 of the 5th." -Ring Magazine, November 1967 issue
