- European Boxing Union Middleweight Title
- European middleweight champion Laszlo Papp changed strategy in his defense against British champion George Aldrige. For the first 10 rounds, he went backwards, letting Aldridge take the command with lefts jabs. But Aldridge also was able to hit with body punches, surprisingly easy. Papp countered in explosive bursts which didn't seem to trouble the Britisher. By the 10th round, the correspondent for Boxing News wondered if the unexpected could happen.
In the 11th Papp went to work. He pressed Aldrige into the ropes and shook him with two powerfull left hooks to the head. Referee Bril imposed a " compulsory count " on Aldridge, clearly a demonstration against the merciless EBU title fight rules. Aldridge got cuts in the 12th but now Papp looked tired and couldn't finish of the brave Britisher who won the 13th on more left jabs. Papp went for KO in the 14th and gave Aldridge a sound beating. Yet Aldridge managed to cut Papp's eyebrow. Aldrigde stumblet out for the last round. but was beaten around the ring, was down and got up at 8. Papp threw more blows and with 36 seconds remaining, Bril just had to save the Britisher.
