Vargas fought his last bout on July 31, 2008, in the same venue and ring. Ring announcer Henry Hascup read a couple of letters, first from John Lynch of Pound for Pound Promotions and then another one from the President of the WBC Jose Sulaiman and then Hascup presented a medal donated by Sulaiman to Ronny Vargas's father. Hascup then asked for a standing 9 count in celebration of Vargas's life......The packed house all stood and clapped for several minutes, there wasn't a dry eye in the place. Vargas's father was over come with emotion.
