  • Referee: John Thomas

"Jimmy Heair, the unbeaten lightweight from Ignacio, Colo., ran his winning streak to 30 Thursday night at the Olympic Auditorium when he knocked out Costenito Rodriguez at 2:33 of the 5th round. Heair, who scored his 14th KO, failed to floor Rodriguez but was punishing the helpless veteran from Guadalajara when referee John Thomas stopped it. Heair was content to get in a good workout in the first two rounds. But when Rodriguez came out landing punches to the head in the 3rd, Heair went to work. He tagged Rodriguez repeatedly with an overhand right, then followed with stinging left hooks. By the 4th Rodriguez, though game, was a punching bag. There were a few boos from the 3,200 fans when the bout was stopped, but there was no point in allowing it to continue." -The L.A. Times
