"Lester Felton of Detroit battled to a draw with rough Tony Pellone of New York here Wednesday night. The decision Wednesday night set off a demonstration by the fans, most of whom apparently thought Felton had won. It was a bitter disappointment for Felton, who had figured the Pellone fight as one "I had to win to prove to the people that I am a good scrapper." The decision had scarcely been announced when a heated discussion broke out among Felton's handlers and Boxing commission officials over scoring of the fight." -Associated Press
- The main issue with the scoring of this fight was judge Johnny Webber's card. Under Michigan rules a fighter who scores a knockdown is awarded the round by a score of 7-3 and Webber scored the 2nd round 7-3 for Pellone when Felton went down for a no-count. However, referee Clarence Rosen stated it was no knockdown. Had Webber heeded the referee his score would have been 51-49 for Felton.
- Boxing Commissioner Floyd Stevens discussed this for 10 minutes with his staff and stated that the draw decision stands.
