"Auburn Copeland was treated for a possible broken jaw Thursday night after losing a 10 round decision at the Olympic Auditorium to Dwight Hawkins. Copeland's manager, Johnny Igrao, claimed his smooth-punching fighter suffered the injury in the 3rd round but wouldn't stop fighting. The decision was announced as a draw at first and then changed to a one-point decision for Hawkins when judge Joey Olmos corrected his scorecard." -United Press

- Hawkins was a substitute for Jimmy Moser, who was forced out of the bout with a nose injury. This bout was supposed to be a 12 round bout for the vacant California state featherweight title between Moser and Copeland.
