"Australian jr. welterweight champion Hector Thompson had to produce a whirlwind finish over the last three rounds to outpoint Filipino Jimmy Noel over 10 rounds at Festival Hall tonight. Thompson fought the last two rounds with a cut eyebrow but was able to outpunch the confident Noel. Thompson had the toughest fight of his career and it was only because of his powerful right that he earned the verdict. Noel jabbed Thompson with accurate straight rights in the early rounds and his left cross was rarely off target.
