"The supporting programme produced some spirited encounters, the ten round contest between Bert Ikin (Stoke-on-Trent) and Frank Borrington (Leidester) being particularly exciting. The boxing in this bout was of an unusually high standard for novice heavyweights, and, although Borrington had a great advantage in weight and landed some hefty blows, Ikin, who is only 18, proved himself a doughty opponent. Unlike so many other contests between the big men, the fight went the full distance, the verdict being given to Borrington. It was very unpopular, however, and Ikin was given a rousing reception."
