In a slashing twelve round contest Frank Borrington, the Derby heavyweight, put up a fine display to outpoint Peter Van Goole. From the commencement Borrington was the aggressor, scoring with well timed left leads to the head and body, and using his right with great power. Van Goole gamely contested the issue, but Borrington would not be denied and chased his man round the ring. In the sevenh round Van Goole narrowly escaped the knock out, the bell coming to his rescue after a terrific onslaught by the Derby boy. The crowd rose to both men at the end of a splendid contest when the verdict went on points to Borrington.
