On the undercard to the Maddalone-Baker main event held at Russo's on the Bay catering hall in Howard Beach Brooklyn, New York, local favorite Super Middleweight Curtis 'Showtime' Stevens of Brownsville Brooklyn, New York, won an eight round unanimous decision over 'dangerous' Don Mouton of Houston, Texas.
The fight was fought at center ring, and the bout was much closer than the scoring indicated. From ringside the bout appeared even, but the rounds appeared close and difficult to score. Stevens, now 20-2 with 14 kayos, and Mouton, now 8-4-1 with 7 kayos, fought a brutal toe-to-toe war at close quarters at center ring from rounds two through eight. Stevens won the first round, however, by emptying his guns and unloading power shots with Mouton unhurt against the ropes weathering the storm, trying to get Stevens to punch himself out. Later in the bout, on those occasions when Stevens did get Mouton against the ropes, Stevens changed tactics and landed more right-left combinations than Mouton countered with and this proved the slight difference. However Mouton appeared appeared as 'dangerous' as his name, and with both fighters coming forward pressuring each other in top condition fighting a world class caliber bout, the crowd was on the edge of their seats in a thriller.
