European Super Bantamweight Champion Rendall Munroe, the WBC's # 1 contender, won a WBC title shot against the winner of Toshiaki Nishioka of Japan vs Balweg Bangoyan of Phillipines, by stopping Victor Terrazas of Mexico in the ninth round of a scheduled 12 in this WBC eliminator bout held in Nottinghamshire, England. Terrazas won the first four rounds on points with fast jabs while staying on the outside. From round five on, Munroe's body attacks began to wear Terrazas down, and the fight became a nonstop brawl. By round seven, Munroe's jab combinations and body attacks had Terrazas fighting off the ropes and tiring. Frequent hooks from Munroe began to get through as well, and by round eight, Terrazas was taking a lot of punishment. In the ninth, a left hook to the body put Terrazas on his knees, unable to get up, forcing an end to the contest. Promoter Frank Maloney stated after the bout he hoped to bring the WBC title bout to Great Britain for Munroe, rather than Munroe going elsewhere to challenge.
