The tough German Erich Walter went forward all the time in his bout with the unbeaten Magyar Laszlo Papp. That suited Papp who mastered the art of counter-punching. Walter got a cut eye in the 6th, his gumshield was knocked out in the 7th. Yet he fought on bravely. In the 9th a left hook from southpaw Papp dropped Walter. He got up and was met with volleys of head blows which finally left him draped over the ropes.
