Bassey, Nigeria, was completely unmarked, but Hamia left the Palais des Sports Arena with his right eye badly swollen and a stitch in his lip to close a cut inflicted in the brutal final 30 seconds of the match scheduled for 15 rounds. Hamia, worn down and defenseless by Bassey's unending pounding with jabs and hooks to the head, was out on his feet.
