Pre-fight comments
- "Since I first started fighting I wanted to win the world title, and I won't let this chance get away. I know he's taller, but I'll just fight my way inside." -Chango Carmona
- "I'll have to stay away and stick him with jabs and not try to trade in close. If I fight smart, I shouldn't have much trouble." -Mando Ramos
"Chango Carmona left Mando Ramos a bloody, helpless figure in tearing the WBC lightweight championship away from the Long Beach fighter in 8 rounds at the Coliseum Friday night. Carmona started out on top of Ramos and stayed there, offsetting the champion's advantages in height and reach with a relentless barrage of bombs, most of which found flesh. In the 4th round, Chango bloodied Ramos' nose with a stiff left, then moments later sat him on the floor with a right to the jaw. Twice in the 5th Carmona put his man down with body blows, Mando sinking painfully to the canvas first from a left to the kidneys, then from a left under the ribs. Ramos outboxed Carmona to win the 7th, but in the 8th Carmona sent Ramos reeling senseless to his haunches with a left hook. He arose but could only stand his ground absorbing Carmona's barrage, and the blood was flowing freely when referee Rudy Jordan pulled Chango away at 1:48 of the round." -Long Beach Independent
