Mando Ramos 137 lbs beat Ruben Navarro 134 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Mando Ramos scored a close, unanimous 10 round decision over Ruben Navarro Thursday night at the Olympic Auditorium in what was supposed to be a tuneup for his title fight with Pedro Carrasco next month in Madrid. Mando appeared much bigger and stronger than the tough, little Maravilla Kid, but it was Navarro who made it a tremendous fight. Navarro outsmarted Ramos. He moved quickly and cleverly from side to side and caught the ex-champion with overhand rights several times in every round. Ramos had been away from the ring for 10 months and had been in hard training for only four weeks. His lack of timing was evident throughout. Ramos was guilty of hitting on the break, and using his elbows and shoulders to rough up his foe at every opportunity. Navarro suffered cuts under and above the right eye as early as the 3rd round and the eye bothered him periodically. Except for the 3rd round when the sight of blood stirred him into a rally, Ramos was getting beaten to the punch often through the first six rounds." -The L.A. Times

  • This bout was originally a scheduled 10 rounder between Ramos and Chango Carmona. However, due to cuts suffered by Carmona in his August 31st bout with Raimundo Dias, Carmona was unable to participate and Navarro substituted.
