"18-year-old Mando Ramos, 128, hurdled the biggest obstacle in his bid for a world championship Thursday night by unanimously outpointing Jorge (Baby) Salazar, 123, Durango, Mexico, at the Olympic Auditorium. The 5'9" Ramos scored his 11th win in a row, including 8 knockouts, over an opponent nine inches shorter. Salazar, a game southpaw, couldn't reach the lanky Ramos, and as a result, his right jab was ineffective. Ramos' best round was the 8th, when a one-two combo leveled Salazar against the ropes and Ramos followed up to almost put the veteran on the canvas." -Pasadena Star-News
