"Mando Ramos climbed off the canvas in the 9th round to win a unanimous decision over the world's junior lightweight champion in a non-title bout Thursday night at the Olympic Auditorium. Ramos came back in the same round with a strong flurry which had his opponent, Hiroshi Kobayashi of Japan, hanging on. Ramos suffered a cut left eye and an injured right hand but neither injury appeared to be serious. Ramos took early command in the toe-to-toe slugfest which brought the fans to their feet on several occasions. He used his height and a strong left jab to good advantage." -Pomona Progress-Bulletin
