Tiger Jack Fox 187 lbs lost to Jerry McSwain 190 lbs by KO at 2:39 in round 6 of 10

  • Date: 1947-07-30
  • Location: Ferris Field, Spokane, Washington, USA
  • Referee: Bud Oliver

The two boxers fought a feeling out round in the 1st round, with Fox preforming clowning tactics. Fox tapered off on those tactics in the 2nd round, as he found himself unable to land his looping rights and lefts. McSwain would control the fight from the 2nd through 5th rounds, shooting occasional jabs and right hands. In the 6th round a right hand to the jaw from Fox stunned McSwain. Fox punished McSwain until, McSwain was able to hold his opponent. Suddenly, McSwain saw an opening for a right hand, that he landed on Fox's jaw, that sent his mouthpiece in one direction and his body in another, to the canvas. Fox grabbed the lower rope at the count of seven, in an attempt to rise, but slumped back to the canvas at the count of nine.

Fox was fighting on a win or retire deal with Spokane matchmaker Chuck Haines. This loss was supposed to have ended his Spokane career. Fox broke an arm in this fight.
