Bout Summary
Both fighters showed nervous energy in the opening round. Each looked to move in quickly and land power shots before getting back out of range. Midway through the round, a small cut opened on Williams's nose. A land heft from Williams glanced off Lundy's shoulder and landed on the temple causing Lundy to go to a knee. It was the sixth time Lundy had been down in his professional career. He was up immediately and after a mandatory eight-count action continued. In Round 3, the two exchanged heavy shots with Lundy likely getting the better of his opponent by firing straighter shots in between Williams's wide punches. At 2:20 of the round both fighters landed left hooks that wobbled the other. By the end of the round, Williams appeared a bit winded. Lundy began to find his rhythm and give Williams trouble by coming forward with his hands high, controlling the distance while working with a jab, and looking for countering opportunities. Williams, a counter puncher too, did not seem as comfortable leading the action and often fought, within range, with his hands at his side allowing Lundy to land. Williams increased his output in Round 6, but Lundy likely earned the round landing with the jab and a couple of nice one-two combinations with Williams simply not keeping his guard up and no longer having the quickness to slip some of the shots. Lundy, the more polished of the two, controlled the 7th and 8th Rounds with a jab and by counter punching against Williams who appeared to have lost some of the steam from his punches. In the 8th, Lundy landed four consecutive jabs with no response from Williams. Lundy likely earned the final two rounds by keeping Williams out of range, pumping the jab when in range, and avoiding the punches of Williams.
