Tony Canzoneri 133 lbs lost to Jack 'Kid' Berg 134 lbs by SD in round 10 of 10

"At MSG last night before more than 18,000 fans Jack (Kid) Berg disregarded a normally heart-breaking 1st round in which he almost collapsed and came back to outslug Tony Canzoneri, former featherweight champion. Canzoneri was a heavy favourite and the judgement of the so-called wise money looked very right in the opening canto when Tony rocked the English boxer with a series of rights and lefts to the jaw. After that Berg fought a steady, persistent fight, carrying the battle to the Italian and beating him decisively. His attack was so relentless and so sure that only in the 7th round did Canzoneri show anything." -International News Service

  • It was stated in this report that Berg would probably be getting the next crack at the 135 lb. title held by Sammy Mandell, but would likely first have to go through Al Singer first. However, Berg fought for the junior welterweight title in his very next bout.
  • Referee Mike Hylis voted for Canzoneri, while the two judges cast their ballots for Berg.
