Tony Canzoneri vs. Eddie Zivic (1st meeting)
Tony Canzoneri 134 lbs beat Eddie Zivic 132 lbs by TKO at 1:47 in round 7 of 10
- Date: 1935-04-25
- Location: Motor Square Garden, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
- Referee: Red Robinson
The two fought a slow opening two rounds, as Canzoneri appeared interested in giving the impression he was toying with Zivic. Zivic opened up in the 3rd round, and engaged Canzoneri in a brief slugfest, with a right cross and left jab. Zivic continued his aggressiveness in the 4th round, but paid a heavy price, as he was pounded with both hands by Canzoneri; taking advantage of Zivic's low left hand. Canzoneri continued his effort in the 5th round, as he attempted to setup Zivic for the knockout.
In the 6th, Zivic was put down twice for eight-counts midway through the round. At the end of the round, Zivic did not know which corner was his. At the start of the 7th round, Canzoneri allowed Zivic to get out of trouble momentarily, as he loafed. Zivic had taken too much punishment though, and after he was hit by a few rights and lefts, without return, referee Red Robinson stopped the contest.
