"Columbia's Antonio Cervantes retained his WBA junior welterweight crown, scoring a unanimous decision victory over Adriano (Nani) Marrero of the Dominican Republic. Cervantes depended largely on his excellent physical condition to outbox a tired-looking Marrero. There were no knockdowns during the 15-round encounter, but Cervantes and Marrero landed several solid left and right combinations. Marrero, who fought aggressively during most of the fight, directed his attack to the champion's midsection, but Cervantes, a more experienced boxer, returned several hard lefts and rights to the challenger's head and body." -Associated Press
- Both fighters weighed 139 3/4
