"Tommy (Hurricane) Jackson, 192, from Far Rockaway, N.Y., won his second unanimous 10-round decision over Ezzard Charles, 191, in less than a month and spoiled the Cincinnati boxer's hopes for another crack at the world's heavyweight crown. In the ring before the TV cameras, Jackson was a dancing, weaving, cocky jack-in-the-box, finally staggering the baffled Charles in the 10th round and hitting him with punches from everywhere. But in the Cleveland Arena's dressing room, Jackson was shy and self-conscious as he walked up to Charles and apologized for beating him." -Associated Press

- The AP report stated that judge Herb Williams' scorecard was 98-87 for Jackson
- Jackson's $10,000 guarantee was his largest purse to this point in his career
