"Somewhat withered from roadwork, Kid Chocolate, 123 1/2, barely retained his claims to the world featherweight championship last night by taking a close 15-round decision over British titleholder Seaman Tommy Watson, 125 1/2, in MSG. Despite Chocolate's condition, he and Watson turned in a good fight for the Kid's NYSAC featherweight title. Chocolate's best round was the 10th when he floored the Britisher with a hard left hook. But Watson was up at the count of three and coming in again. It was the only knockdown of the fight. Watson showed best in the 12th and might have won the bout then had he been more aggressive in following up his advantage after staggering the Cuban with a hard straight right to the chin." -United Press
- Unofficial UP scorecard - 7-6-2 Chocolate
- Unofficial AP scorecard - 8-5-2 Chocolate
- It had been rumored after this bout that Chocolate was going to rematch Watson in London in August, but nothing ever came of it.

Post-fight comment
- "I don't see how he won that fight. He was in the poorest shape of his ring career; dead on his feet. He won on nerve alone, because that Watson is a better fighter than he looks." -Luis Gutierrez, Kid Chocolate's manager
