Part of the three day "Carnival of Champions" held at the Olympia Club in New Orleans, Louisiana. Skelly was the amateur featherweight champion. Dixon was in control of the bout from the start, breaking Skelly's nose before stopping him in the eighth. The result of these mixed race bout caused a near riot from the predominately white crowd, causing the Olympia Club to cancel any future mixed races bouts indefintely.
