  • Location: Coliseum, Washington, District of Columbia, USA
  • Referee: Charley Reynolds

"Bob Foster floored veteran Eddie Cotton twice before knocking out the 40 year old veteran in 1:58 of the 3rd round of their scheduled 12 rounder last night. Foster came out with a flurry in the 1st round and after several combinations hit Cotton with an overhand left knocking him to the canvas where he took the mandatory eight-count. In the 2nd round both fighters played a primarily defensive game. But in the 3rd, Foster apparently felt he had the range on Cotton. He hit Cotton with a left and dropped him with a right to the head for the mandatory eight-count. As soon as Cotton arose from the canvas, Foster was on him again. Foster once more unleashed a flurry of punches before connecting with another hard left to the head which dropped Cotton for the ten count." -Associated Press

  • As Foster was ranked #2 and Cotton #4, both fighters hoped to challenge the winner of the 2nd bout between Dick Tiger and Jose Torres. However, both the Tiger and Torres camps stated they would be obligated to defend against Roger Rouse first.
