Gaspar Ortega 147 lbs drew with Mickey Crawford 148 lbs by SD in round 10 of 10

"Mickey Crawford now regards himself as the No. 1 contender for Virgil Akins' welterweight crown after Wednesday night's 10 round draw with Gaspar Ortega. What Crawford says may be true but Ortega is No. 1 on the list for Akins' crown. Crawford made Ortega look bad through most of the fight. Ortega, on the other hand, said he thought he won the bout decisively. He was willing to miss a half dozen blows to land one and had Crawford groggy in the 4th round. Mickey worked on Ortega's face and by the end of the 6th had the Mexican bleeding from a cut under the right eye. But he is a light puncher and couldn't put Ortega away." -Associated Press

  • Unofficial AP scorecard - 6-4 Crawford
  • Referee Barney Felix' scorecard was 4-4-2 in rounds, but even though he was able to utilize New York's supplemental point system in the event of an Even card, he still had it 5-5 in points.
