"Hedgemon Lewis proved his mettle in the abbreviated fight against Butte's Leroy Romero in the Idaho State University Minidome Friday night. He left ring observers with the impression he possesses all the tools to become world welterweight champion if he sticks to his vast boxing skills and disdains his obsession for the knockout. Fight fans were baffled that a fighter of Lewis' calibre was so inaccurate with his body punches against Romero. The scheduled 10 rounder was halted in the 3rd when Romero was struck with a low blow and unable to continue after the 15 minute time limit allowed for recuperation. The fight was called no decision under Idaho boxing regulations. Lewis was admonished by the referee in the 2nd round and the 3rd round fight-stopper also was ruled an illegal punch." -Butte Montana Standard
