"Hedgemon Lewis, Los Angeles, won for the 6th time this year Thursday night, a unanimous 10 round decision over another ranking welterweight, Raul Soriano, Mexicali, Mexico, at the Olympic Auditorium. Lewis, scoring well in the middle rounds, staggered Soriano in the 4th when Soriano sustained a slight cut above his right eye. Soriano turned southpaw in the 5th to give Hedgemon some trouble, but Lewis finished the round strongly. Soriano had a slight edge in the 6th but Lewis hammered away with numerous blows to take the 7th by a wide margin. Soriano rallied in the last few rounds but couldn't overcome Lewis' lead.
