Two hard left hooks to the head from Chagaev dropped the tall 6'5" Pianeta to all fours midway through the first, who beat the count. Later, another overhand left to the head from Chagaev dropped Pianeta face first along the ropes in a corner, who beat the count at nine but was out of it, forcing the stoppage. Southpaw Chagaev saw Pianeta's defensive hole early, loaded up on his power left, and scored it with pinpoint accuracy as Pianeta leaned forward throwing the straight left awkwardly.
