  • Referee: Rudolf Drust

42 days after winning the European light middleweight crown from Bruno Visintin of Italy, Bo Hogberg of Sweden made his first defense against French Yolande Leveque. It all started wonderfully for Hogberg in the Kungliga Hallen in Stockholm. He floored Leveque for an 8 count with a right in round 1. But from the 3rd round it all went downhill for Hogberg. He was floored by a right and rose groggy at 8. Ring referee Rudolf Durst of Germany double checked him before allowing the fight to continue, possibly saving Hogberg from a KO. What no one knew was that Hogberg was in extreme pain from a blow in the 1st which had broken his jaw in two places. Hogberg went down again in the 8th and 12th from right hands. He was now on the receiving end and took standing counts in the 12th and 15th. Referee Durst had Hogberg as winner only in rounds 1,11 and 13. " Don't know how in hell I got up, " Hogberg told the press before heading for the hospital where he spent the night. The tabloid Expressen published a photo which told the truth about the fight: " Leveque hits and keeps his guard, Hogberg misses and has no guard at all ".
